Snetterton - Rounds 16 to 18 of the Ginetta Junior Championships

Snetterton – Rounds 16, 17 and 18

21 June 2023

As ever the Ginetta Juniors delivered some exciting and close racing.  Holly was competitive throughout the weekend, completing all her races and climbing from her grid position on each occassion.

Saturday – Qualifying and Round 16

Ginetta Juniors’ qualifying is based on three flying laps, taking the best two laps to set grid position for the races ahead.  This makes for some frenetic early action – often with drivers failing to register two legal laps.  This session saw Reza Seewooruthun find himself in such a position, destined to start from the back of the grid for race 2.  Holly secured 17th and 16th grid starts through qualification.

Saturday afternoon’s race saw Holly have a competitive race, climbing two positions to finish 15th as she took the chequered flag, four seconds behind Freddie Allum.

Sunday – Round 17

The first race of the day provided some lively competition between Holly, her team mate Harry Moss and Felix Livesey. For much of the race, less than a second separated them the three of them. Ultimately, Holly came out on top finishing 15th after starting 16th off the grid.

Sunday – Round 18

Holly achieved her highest place in the final race of the weekend.  Starting in 15th place on the grid, Holly had a strong start off the line only to be spun by Felix Livesey as he tried to overtake her using the pit lane exit.  This led him to receive a two position penalty for causing a collision. As a result, for much of the race, Holly found herself languishing at the back, out of touch with the main pack.  With draughting such an important aspect of racing, losing touch with the car in front makes catching up very challenging.

However, a red flag and restart brought everyone back together for three exciting final laps where she managed to achieve 13th position as she crossed the line, holding off some close quarters challenges.

Holly now lies in 16th place in the overall championship.  She will next be in action when the Ginetta Juniors visit Cadwell Park on July 22-23.

Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said:

“It’s been quite a challenging weekend, but most of our drivers across both GB4 and Ginetta Juniors have either equalled or bettered their results in qualifying over the past couple of days and that’s really pleasing to see. GB4 and Ginetta Juniors are all about giving us the chance to help drivers learn and develop and we’ve definitely seen plenty of that this season with only one of the racers competing this weekend not being a rookie in their series.”
