Saturday – Qualifying and Round 25
With reduced practice because of bad weather, I went into a qualifying without as much track time as usual, ultimately qualifying in 17th for the first race of the weekend on Saturday. In that race, I managed to climb to 13th and was feeling confident for Sunday’s races.
Sunday – Rounds 26 and 27
Once more starting off 17th, I managed 15th in Sunday morning’s first race. My teammate Harry Moss managed a career best 11th.
That 15th position set my grid position for the final race of the season. This was the sort of close quarters, action packed race that only Ginetta Juniors can deliver. A crash at the Melbourne hairpin took out a number of drivers, including Harry, and I narrowly managed to avoid getting caught up in the pile-up after some instinctive evasive action. After a restart, with all the drivers back together, I held my position well despite being pressed by those behind me. Really pleased with my season best 10th position – not just for myself, but for the team and of course all my supporters and family.
Overall, I finished in 15th place in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship, with Fox Motorsport in 5th in the team race.
I can’t wait for the new season!
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said of the weekend’s racing:
“It’s great to end the season on a high with podiums in two series, career-best results for all our Ginetta drivers and even a class pole position on our British GT return. The progress made by our drivers this year has been evident and you can see how confidently they perform now. Two podiums and third place for Liam in the GB4 points is a strong end to the season and Sid looked closer to winning this weekend than ever before. Mckenzie was extremely impressive in Ginetta GTs, despite having had next to no dry running in the car before Sunday and Holly, Harry and Jack all looked faster than ever before. I’m pleased with the effort everybody’s made.”
